Nancy Duarte shares something remarkable

Isn’t it funny what they say about how the moment you are ready to learn a lesson … a teacher appears?

I sent an email to a friend/mentor recently who always has something profound to share with me. It’s always something that immediately changes the way I think.

He sent a link to this Ted Talk today! I took the 18 min and watched the whole thing. Once again I was not disappointed. On the surface you’ll think it’s a talk about effective speaking or presentations. It is way deeper thank  that!

It’s a call to action.

A call to change.

A call to your future!

Please take the time to watch it. Then write, and LIVE, your own remarkable story. We only get once chance in this life. Our time is the only thing we all have the same amount of. Spend yours wisely!

Little Kickers

Our two boys (featured in the SNAP newspaper article shown below) participate in the North and West Durham Little Kickers indoor soccer program during the winter. Little Kickers is an interesting franchise because it not only provides a fun-filled growth environment for children, it also provides business opportunities for parents and or people looking to escape their current career track. If you are interested in running your own Little Kickers program, check out their site here. If you’re looking for a winter activity for your preschool children, this is definitely worth looking in to – see the North and West Durham facebook page.

Practical Parents

Patti and I know we certainly aren’t bad parents. However, we understand that there is, and always will be, room for improvement. This is because parenting involves something we care about greatly: our children. Tonight we intend to attend a parenting workshop – “Raising Cooperative Respectful Children” – hosted by Practical Parenting in the Whitby, Durham Board of Education Building. If you are interested in attending a parenting workshop within the GTA, check out www.practicalparenting.ca for more information.

Life’s Teachers

High  school  is the ultimate learning environment for kids, not just in learning the course subject matter but also in teaching them about themselves and where they belong. Teachers are at the foundation of it all, providing student support and pushing kids in the direction that is right for them. Take a look at this article, Physics at USS Cosmos article, about one of Uxbridge Secondary School’s incredibly motivated and inspirational teachers, Lisa Lim-Cole.

Now, we understand that those high school days have (long?) past, but that doesn’t mean that you should stop learning from others and actively searching for those personal mentors. Life is full of teachers, and we learn from each other every day. A wise secondary school teacher of mine once said “Surround yourself with those who inspire you and who help you grow.”

Embrace the Chaos

As some of you may already know, in 2011 we had our third child, another bringer of joy into our lives – aswell as another bringer of absolute, utter, and complete chaos. Family life is often an exhausting paradox of tremendous happiness fused with crazy uncontrollable frustration. For Patti and I, independently running two separate business’s, being parents, and maintaining our sanity, can sometimes have us finding it difficult to relate to other families. We came across Embrace the Chaos, an interesting blog that puts a different spin on the chaos of parenting. In truth, no one can control the insanity that is created by having children; however, it is best to accept it and enjoy the ride. Only then can you truly see the miracle that your children are, and the joy that they can bring into your life. So when you feel like losing your marbles – which we often do – remember to embrace the chaos.
